Andrew Rockwell

Giving blood at work wasn't enough. Andrew wanted to take his giving to the next level.

Andrew Rockwell started giving in 1999 and hasn’t stopped.

An employee with CenterPoint Energy—one of Memorial Blood Centers’ top blood drive sponsors—for more than 20 years, Andrew began giving blood for the first time when the bloodmobile pulled up outside his office. “I decided to give with Memorial Blood Centers because it’s truly the community blood bank, founded right here in Minneapolis.” Andrew donated whole blood as often as he could for 4 or 5 years. Then he decided to up his game.

“I don’t like waiting 56 days to donate,” he said. “I wanted to donate more often, and get my gallons up, so I switched over to giving platelets at a donor center. I like getting in the chair, watching a movie, and tuning out the world for a couple hours. Besides, needles don’t bother me, and I like giving back to the community.”

59 gallons later, Andrew shows no sign of slowing down.

Andrew is pictured here in front of the St. Paul donor board. His name is listed under "59 Gallons."
